On Thursday, May 2nd, Legal Aid Service of Collier County recognized Sonia Diaz, a Partner at Coleman, Taylor, Klaus, Doupé, Diaz & Torrez, as Attorney of the Year. "The Barrister's Bash event honors those who have made significant contributions to the success of their Legal Aid organization and its mission. This gala became the signature annual social event for the local legal community, and highlights the life changing free legal services Legal Aid provides to those in need and how they positively impact the entire community."

Named as Attorney of the Year by the Legal Aid Service of Collier County 2024, the 2020 Woman Lawyer of the Year by the Collier County Bar Women’s Bar Association, and recognized as a Florida SuperLawyer®, one of Florida’s “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend magazine and Top Lawyers by Naples Illustrated magazine, Sonia represents businesses and individuals in a variety of matters, including commercial landlord-tenant litigation; construction defect and lien litigation on behalf of general contractors, sub-contractors and owners; complex real estate and personal property disputes; disputes involving employment and non-compete agreements; shareholder disputes; business torts and general contract litigation, at both the trial and appellate levels. She has considerable experience in the courtroom, but also assists clients in resolving disputes through mediation or arbitration when appropriate.
Sonia serves on the Leadership Collier Foundation Advisory Board and is the past Chair of the Leadership Collier Foundation Alumni Association Leadership Lunch Committee. She is also a member of the Business Law, Trial Lawyers and Labor and Employment Law sections of the Florida Bar. She has been licensed to practice law since 2002, and is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts as well as the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Sonia is deeply committed to serving our community and the legal profession. She has served as President of the Collier County Bar Association (2014-15), President of the Collier County Bar Foundation (2013-14), President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Collier County Bar Association (2006-07), Director of the Collier County Bar Association (2007-16) and member of the Collier County Women’s Bar Association (2002-present). Sonia was honored with the 2015 Leaders in the Law Award from the Florida Association of Women Lawyers. She is also a member of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce Leadership Collier Class of 2012, and is active with the Leadership Collier Alumni Association. Sonia was an Officer and Director of the Collier County Children’s Advocacy Center (2004-11) and served on the Board of Directors of Grace Place for Children and Families (2015-18).
Sonia began working as an associate attorney with Michael Coleman, Bill Hazzard and Damian Taylor upon graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and became a partner with the firm in 2013. In law school, Sonia received Book Awards in Appellate Advocacy and Human Rights Law, served as a teaching assistant for Appellate Advocacy and Legal Research and Writing courses, assisted professors Lars and Barbara Noah in researching and editing their book Law, Medicine & Technology (2002), and was awarded a Pro Bono Certificate for her contributions to the community and legal profession. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and is a graduate of Naples High. In her free time, Sonia enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with her husband and son.
