LCF Alumni Association Explore Collier - Wet Walk

LCF Alumni Association Explore Collier - Wet Walk

Saturday, November 16, 2024 (1:15 PM - 5:15 PM) (EST)

Description

LCF Alumni with their family/friends are invited to a private "wet walk" experience hosted by Big Cypress National Preserve. This experience will provide participants with information for responsible stewardship of Collier County’s natural lands, wildlife, and waters and will foster greater appreciation and awareness of the region’s natural resources through history, knowledge, and immersive hands-on experience.

Special Notes: Long pants for sun protection and wet walk are a must. Quick-dry fabric or zip-off split pants are recommended if you have it, since jeans fabric may become heavy. Layers, such as a quick-dry long-sleeve shirt, are also recommended. A rain jacket is suggested in case of foul weather. You will have the option to change clothes prior to leaving the Visitor Center. Please wear closed-toe shoes only. Old sneakers, booties, or other tie on shoes work best. No crocs, Teva’s/strapped water shoes, or waders/boots (they may fill with water). You may want to bring a change of clothes to change into before getting back into your vehicle, post wet walk.

Water levels are difficult to predict, but for the wet walk, we may be walking through water up to your knees or waist. Small backpacks work well or bring a waterproof case for phone and keys. This is an opportunity to view beautiful landscapes and possibly wildlife, so feel free to bring binoculars and cameras. Bring a towel, a plastic bag for wet clothes, and a change of clothes for getting back into your car after the wet walk. Hats, sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. To reduce the use of plastic, please bring a reusable water bottle with you.
